Worshiping God through Meditating on His Names
Thank Him for revealing Himself to you.

(Exo 3:13-14 KJV) And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? {14} And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAMES OF GOD

The Name of God holds an important key to understanding who God is. The Name of God is a personal disclosure of His Person, and reveals His Majesty and Eternal Existence, and relationship with His people. His Name is known only because He chooses to make it known. To the Hebrew mind, God was both hidden and revealed, transcendent and immanent. Even though he was mysterious, lofty, and unapproachable, He bridged the gap with humankind Himself by revealing His names.

The truth of God’s character is focused in His Name. The divine Name reveals God’s power, authority, and holiness. This accounts for Israel’s great reverence for God’s Name. The Ten Commandments prohibited the violation of God’s name:

(Exo 20:7 KJV) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Prophets spoke with authority when they uttered God’s Name. Oaths taken in God’s Name were considered binding, and battles fought in the Name of God were victorious. Other nations would fear Israel, not because it was a mighty nation, but because it rallied under the Lord’s Name. In the New Testament, God’s Name is manifested most clearly in Jesus Christ. He is called "the Word":

(John 1:1-4 KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. {2} The same was in the beginning with God. {3} All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. {4} In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

and Jesus himself makes the claim that he has revealed the Name of God (John 17:6). God’s Name is His promise to dwell with His people:

(John 17:5-6 KJV) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. {6} I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
